1983-1993
The first decade of the WDW Christmas Parades on TV signalled a new era of television marketing for Walt Disney World. In 1983, based on the success of previous WDW television specials, the marketing department decided to "buy air time" on Christmas morning and produce a television special featuring the annual Christmas Parade, broadcast LIVE from the Magic Kingdom. It was such a success, that the parade has been broadcast every year since (except year 2000). The concept was such a success that the formula was copied when the WDW Happy Easter Parade debuted in 1985. The annual Easter parade saw its last broadcast in 1999, after 15 egg-cellent years! (sorry, couldn't resist the pun...) In 2008, the Very Merry Christmas Parade will celebrate it's 25th Anniversary!! |
